FOCL ESSAY CONTEST
We’re inviting high school students in grades 9–12 to participate in a new essay contest inspired by bestselling author T.J. Klune—just ahead of his May 12 lecture at the Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater. Students are encouraged to reflect on a Klune book that left a lasting impression. This isn’t about summarizing the story—it’s about personal connection. How did the book shift your perspective? Spark growth? Inspire action?
Educators are also encouraged to bring this opportunity into the classroom or assign it as independent work—using Klune’s themes as a starting point for deeper discussion and reflection.
Submission Details:
* Essays must be 1,000 words or fewer
* Deadline: April 26, 2026
* Submit via email to focl@onlib.org
* Include “Essay Contest” in the subject line
* File format: Microsoft Word or PDF
A winning essay will be selected on May 1, 2026, and featured on the FOCL website.

The winning student will receive tickets to T.J. Klune’s May 12, 2026, lecture at the Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater, plus a special opportunity to meet the author!
