THE FRIENDS OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY (FOCL) TO HOST LIZ MOORE, AWARD-WINNING, BESTSELLING AUTHOR AND PRODUCER, TUESDAY, NOV. 25 AT 7:30 P.M.
Renowned for New York Times Bestselling Novels Long Bright River and The God of the Woods, Moore Will Speak at the Oncenter Convention Center Ballroom, Located at 800 South State St.
SYRACUSE, NY–The Friends of the Central Library (FOCL) presents bestselling author Liz Moore as its third visiting author in its 31st Season at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Oncenter Convention Center Ballroom. Through her prolific, two-decade career as an author, Moore has established herself as a virtuoso of the literary thriller, known for her intricate plots, complex characters, and ability to upend expectations. A winner of the Rome Prize in Literature, a nominee for the Edgar Award, and a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, Moore is the Director of the MFA program in Creative Writing at Temple University.
Her immersive, New York Times bestselling novels Long Bright River and The God of the Woods have propelled more than 1 million readers through twisting, multigenerational stories that are as moving as they are surprising and compelling. Even more central to Moore’s literary work than her instincts for suspense are her “informed and compassionate” observations on some of the most pressing subjects of our time (The Guardian).
From her debut, The Words of Every Song, through Heft and The Unseen World, to her more recent literary thrillers, Moore has demonstrated a gift for layering storytelling and propulsive plotting while exploring the intricacies of class, addiction, neglect, and grief. Her work not only brings these issues to light but gives readers the language to approach them with empathy and understanding—all while offering the kind of reading experience that “transports readers so deeply into its richly peopled, ominous world that, for hours, everything else falls away” (The Washington Post).
“When we invite authors to FOCL, we’re looking for writers who really connect with people, and Liz Moore does exactly that,” said Angela Bernat, FOCL Board president. “Her stories are honest, complicated, and deeply human. We can’t wait to hear her bring them to life here in Syracuse.”
Moore’s novels have been selected for monthly book clubs by “Good Morning America,” Barnes and Noble, and “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”
Moore brings the same authenticity to her work in screenwriting, having adapted her Long Bright River novel for television alongside Nikki Toscano. Moore serves as co-creator, executive producer, and co-writer of the Peacock and Sony Pictures Television project, starring Academy Award®-nominated, Emmy Award-winning actor Amanda Seyfried. The God of the Woods and The Unseen World have both been optioned by Sony for development as television series.
Moore will be introduced by Cora Alsante, a partner in the Tax and Trusts & Estates Practices at Hancock Estabrook and a board member of the Slutzker Family Foundation.
